He actually had to teach his State Police escort driver how to drive it because he refuses to ride in anything else. I have a little but more respect for this guy now, it's actually pretty cool. Manuals have the law on their side now! At least in Pennsylvania.

That sounds more annoying than cool. His escort's job is to protect him and he can't do that when he's trying to drive. Him refusing to do the standard protocol just makes him seem self important.
Reminds me of the former senator who's tag line during his campaign was "I drive a truck" just so he'd seem more blue collar when he was far from it.

I kind of agree, but at the same time I think if it were that big of an issue, they would say, "I'm sorry Mr. Governor, you have to ride in this Yukon we've provided for you."

It's not the drivers job to protect him, it's only his job to drive him, the other 6 vehicles in the motorcade are to protect him.

The guy's also aligned himself with every "green" tax-away-things-we-don't-like movement under the sun. He's pushing higher gas, natural gas, sales, and income taxes, and will happily throw car enthusiasts to the wolves while leaving himself a carve out to enjoy his hobby long after you can't afford to drive.
Politicians are great at pandering, but seeing John Kerry play dress-up with a custom Benelli on the Heinz estate doesn't mean any target shooter in his right mind would support him...
